Infleqtion Accelerates Commercialization Of Quantum Products At Scale With Silicon Photonics Acquisitions
Infleqtion, a leading quantum information provider, has announced the strategic purchase of two integrated silicon photonics companies, SiNoptiq Inc. and Morton Photonics Inc. This substantial move enables Infleqtion to accelerate its goals for chip-scale integration, which include lasers, photonics, and atomic systems. The goal is to accelerate the commercialization of quantum products like sensors and quantum computers, while also improving the quantum supply chain and enabling large-scale quantum manufacturing.
Scott Faris, CEO of Infleqtion, underlined the need of scale in quantum technology adoption, saying, "Getting quantum technologies out of labs and into customers' hands requires a heavy focus on scale, both in manufacturing and across the entire supply chain." He emphasized that these acquisitions are consistent with Infleqtion's commitment to providing high-value quantum solutions at the scale required by critical industries such as defense and enterprise deployments.
The traditionally limited quantum technology supply chain, particularly in the United States, has slowed growth due to a scarcity of vendors and insufficient commercial manufacturing capabilities. Infleqtion's acquisitions of SiNoptiq and Morton Photonics, both of which specialize in crucial quantum components, are expected to address these issues. The goal is to move photonic and laser technology from research and development to large-scale commercial production.
SiNoptiq is known for its ultra-low loss silicon nitride platform, which is a critical component for quantum applications. The platform offers high-performance photonic lasers and photonics-based quantum solutions across the visible to mid-infrared spectrum. As part of the transaction, Dr. Dan Blumenthal, President and CEO of SiNoptiq, will join Infleqtion as Chief Photonics Architect. Dr. Blumenthal's experience with ultra-low loss photonic integration and the integration of atomic, quantum, and optical communications systems brings substantial value to Infleqtion.
Morton Photonics develops sophisticated silicon photonics-based component and subsystem technologies for microwave photonics and sensor systems. The business also focuses on ultra-low noise semiconductor lasers, which range from discrete lasers to fully integrated silicon photonics versions. Dr. Paul Morton, CEO of Morton Photonics and an experienced photonics visionary, will become Vice President of Photonics and General Manager of the newly founded Infleqtion Santa Barbara Research Center.
The acquisitions expand Infleqtion's intellectual property portfolio by adding over 40 core patents and product portfolios relating to integrated lasers and photonic systems. This is critical for large-scale manufacture of quantum sensors, network devices, and quantum computers.
Infleqtion's commitment to commercializing quantum technology is demonstrated by recent accomplishments such as the selection of its neutral atom platform for Japan's Quantum Moonshot program, the launch of Oqtant (the world's first quantum matter service), the selection of new optical atomic clocks in the United Kingdom, and the demonstration of advanced quantum RF capability and interoperability.
At SPIE Quantum West 2024, Infleqtion will demonstrate its quantum products and solutions, which include the Oqtant platform and desqtopMOT. This event, scheduled on January 30 and 31, will include live demonstrations and presentations that highlight Infleqtion's quantum technological achievements.
